Held on Sunday 30 November in Mijas Pueblo’s Plaza Virgen de la Peña, the Certamen de Pastorales is a competition and gathering of groups performing Pastorales—traditional Andalusian Christmas carols accompanied by zambomba drums and tambourines. Recognised as a Festival of Tourist Singularity, the event offers free admission and marks the spiritual start of the festive season.
